From the Principal

TERM 2

Welcome to the second term of 2022!  I do hope everyone had a restful and refreshing Easter Break. We have three new families joining us this term and we welcome their children in Years 3 and 6.

STAFFING NEWS

Over the holidays, Mrs Karen Misso resigned from her position at Grace Primary.  Karen has headed up the marketing staff at our school for the past ten years and I know she has made many friends amongst our parent body during her time here. Karen is making a career move by accepting a management position in a law firm and we wish her every happiness in this new pursuit.  As a staff we will farewell Karen on Wednesday, 27 April and if you have any messages you would like sent through to Karen, please send them to my email or drop them in at the office and I will make sure she receives them.

Also over the holidays, Mrs Sue Coghlan resigned to take up a full time teaching position.  Sue has been with us for twenty years and apart from being a classroom teacher she also worked in the Physical Education / Sport section of the school.  We wish her well in her future.

The Early Learning Centre is looking sensational and we had a licensing inspection over the holidays.   The following staff have been appointed to the ELC but we are looking for at least six more so that we can open every room in the centre as soon as possible.  Mrs Mary Irwin has been appointed as Service Leader.  She will retain her position in GOSHC and oversee both sections of our school in terms of Administration.  Mrs Angela Wright has been appointed as the Educational Leader in the ELC.  She comes to us from a Lutheran Early Learning Centre in Woolangabba and has many years of experience as a Kindergarten Teacher.   Miss Grace Fenwick and Miss Logan Bertling will work as educators in the centre and we will welcome Miss Taylor Bertling in June when she has finished her degree studies.  If you know of any Diploma or Certificate Qualified educators who may like to join a sensational team of professionals in our ELC, please direct them to the advertisement we have at Seek.com.au.

PARENT REP PROGRAM

I have made the decision to revamp the Parent Rep program in the following way hoping that this will make the communication easier and very available for all parents in the various year levels.

  • The marketing team will approach 1 – 3 parents per year level to coordinate the Parent Rep program.
  • The role of the Parent Reps will be to be an administrator on the Year level Facebook page and to be available for contact for parents of the school, especially new parents to feel welcome and part of a friendly school community.
  • Social outings such as ‘Mums night out’ or ‘Dad’s coffee meets’ or student get togethers such as play dates in the park are also encouraged. Please don’t limit your imagination for these outings!
  • The School will also be an administrator on these pages.
  • The Year Level Facebook pages names will be standardized e.g. GLPS Prep 2022; GLPS Year One 2022 etc and obviously will be changed each year. This will help me to guide new families to the Facebook Pages when they enroll each year.
  • Only parents who have students enrolled in the Year Level will be allowed access on the Year level pages and if a family leaves the school, the parent will be removed from the group.
  • On the Year Level Facebook page, all communications will be posted e.g. the weekly help to be organized message, school events and activities and any social events for the year level. This will alleviate the text messages which were sent out each week which caused a large amount of administration for parent representatives.
  • All buy, sell and swap notices for second hand uniform selling and purchasing should be directed to the GLPS Buy Sell and Swap Facebook page and not be listed on the Year Level pages.

CALENDAR UPDATES

A reminder we have extended our term school days this year due to our late start to the year and the term will finish on Wednesday, June 22.

VOLUNTEERING

Are you known for your fab burger flipping skills? Regardless of skill level, are you the type of person that’s happy to give something a go? Are you happy to give a bit of time to help others?
We are looking for volunteers to help with our BBQ lunch for our upcoming Saturday musical rehearsals. If you are able to help out from 10am – 2pm (or part of this time) on Saturday 14th, 21st or 28th of May, please email reception@glps.qld.edu.au.
We have 175 little people and many staff/volunteers that are working hard during rehearsals and our BBQ lunches fill them up for sustained energy. If you’re willing and able, we would love to hear from you. Putting on a musical is so much more than students shining on a stage….it’s about community coming together for a common goal

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

SPONSORSHIP

We are grateful for the generous sponsorship of Kindred for this year’s musical.  They have taken out the major sponsorship at Aladdin level.

Thank you very much to Caporn Piling who have sponsored our Jasmin in the musical this year.

Thank you also to the Ungun family whose business Proseat Auto Aircraft Marine Interior Centre have taken out Genie level sponsorship.

If you would like to also help fund our musical, Aladdin Junior which will be held at the  Redcliffe Entertainment Centre on the 10th and 11 of June, please see the information loaded below.  All funds will help keep the ticket costs low for our general school community and will also support a fantastic team who are working hard on the musical already to create sets, props and costuming which will be at a dazzling level.

Other ways you can help

There are also four great ways that you can help your young people come on camp:

  • School Subsidy

If you don’t have a subsidy code yet, please complete this form to apply for a code that you can hand out to your young people before they book.

  • Buchholz Estate Funding Support

Buchholz is a scholarship funded by the Buchholz Estate. This scholarship is specifically for high-school aged campers. For more information on the application process, eligibility or to access the application form, please click here.

  • LLL Junior Camping Ministry Grant

The Junior Camp Scholarship is thanks to a generous grant from the Lutheran Laypeoples League (LLL). This scholarship is specifically for primary school aged campers. For more information on the application process, eligibility or to access the application form, please click here.

  • Help us find leaders (of all ages!)

I’m not sure if you were expecting to see this one on the list? All too often we have to limit the amount of campers we can allow on a camp because of our struggle to find enough leaders. Having leaders from their local school or church join campers on camp provides a beautiful opportunity to build intergenerational connections. And, we aren’t just looking for young adults to lead on camp, we’re looking for people of any age who are passionate about sharing Jesus with young people. Older adults, parents, pastors, and grandparents are vital for bringing more wisdom and experience to team, to support both the campers and younger leaders, all while building a supportive Christian community.

If you’d like any more information about these events, head to www.lyq.org.au or contact our office on 07 3511 4080…we’re more than happy to help!

Peace,

LYQ Events Team

ABOUT THE CENTRE

Are you following our Early Learning Centre Facebook? www.facebook.com/GraceEarlyLearningCentre

The Centre is staffed by qualified Early Learning specialists and will operate under the same Lutheran Christian philosophy as Grace Lutheran Primary School. The ELC program incorporates a mix of high-quality care, play and activity-based learning to harness a child’s natural curiosity and creativity in a Christian environment. Children gain much comfort in having structures, routines and preparation for primary school because of the close relationship between the ELC and Grace Lutheran Primary School.

Children attending the Centre will benefit from:

  • Indoor and outdoor play zones
  • All meals and snacks provided
  • Weekly lessons in Japanese, Performing Arts and Perceptual Movement
  • Chapel and Library access

Parents will enjoy a Barista in the foyer of the ELC daily as well as joining a community of welcoming, like-minded families.

ABOUT PLAYGROUP

Kicking off on Thursday 10th February we were very excited to have our playgroup up and running.

With small group sizes, a large classroom and play areas for our little ones, playgroup is able to go ahead. There are so many families out there wanting to connect and enjoy a fun activity with their child and other Mums, Dads and Carers so we are very happy that our playgroup can be offered for you. These class sessions are a great way to connect with your child and other families. Each week the children will be engaging in fun and exciting music and activities that are specifically designed to stimulate their senses through movement and music, crafts and arts and sensory play.

INTRODUCING KARLIEN

We are very excited to introduce to you the amazing educator who will be running the sensory music and movement playgroup sessions each week!! Karlien has a wealth of experience working with young children. She previously ran her own family daycare and after having her two beautiful children she looked for something she could do that would work with her young family but still be something she loved.

Karlien runs the Maggie Moo Music North Brisbane sessions. She fell in love with the music and sensory classes and absolutely loves hosting these for families. They are such a great way to connect with not only your child, but also other Mums, Dads, Carers, Grandparents etc.
We can’t wait for you to meet Karlien and come sing some songs and dance with us!

WELCOMING PETA

“Hi Grace families,

My name is Peta Griffin and I am your new library contact.

I have been working in school libraries for over 16 years and my aim is to encourage a love of reading with your children here at Grace.

Making the library an exciting, vibrant and fun place to be,  helps the children to explore different areas of the library and to find novels and non-fiction that excites their imagination.

We also have Book Club that happens roughly every 4-5 weeks. Order forms will be sent to the classrooms and the ordering is done via LOOP on the Scholastic website and will be sent to the school for collection.  I’ll send out reminders just before ordering finalises to make it easier for you to remember to get your order in.

Book Fair will be happening later on this year with a chance to come to the library to purchase your special books, always great for birthday or Christmas gifts.

Book Week theme this year is all about Dreaming with Eyes Open.  We will have fun with dressing up and special activities, so I hope all the kids will start to think about the costumes they would like to wear.  More information on this very special time will be coming soon.

Finally you can contact me via email on  library@glps.qld.edu.au for any concerns with overdue books or any other questions you may have.

Looking forward to sharing books with your little ones.”

If you have any questions throughout the year, you can email Peta at library@glps.qld.edu.au
