Celebrating 50 years of Grace – Friday 3 December

Let’s Celebrate

On the last day of school there is a special day planned for students in Prep to Year 5.  This day is a free dress and we ask for your child to donate a gold coin to help raise money for our sponsor child Charlene.  Each year level will be doing a performance and parents are welcome to attend their child’s concert.  Please see more information below.

It’s always fun coming to the last 2 weeks of school! So much rushing about making sure we have the best staff possible for the new year, that the students are well cared for right up until the end of year and also that our class list placements are done thoroughly to ensure the student happiness too. Please do not send anymore requests for class lists for 2022, as the lists have been done, mulled over and are now set so changes cannot be made. I will advise you of class lists in early January, 2022.

We have had a huge amount of inquiries for 2022 and between Years 1 and 6 there will be nearly 20 more students starting at our school. Of special interest is Year 4, 2022 where the numbers are so high that a decision has been made to split the classes into 3 classes in 2022 bringing our class sizes down to about 18 or 19 students per class.

The other huge growth area for 2022 is GOSHC. With almost 100 students a day attending over the holidays (which is our limit for current staffing), it is an exciting place to be. An initiative brought in by the staff to split the younger students from the upper primary students has certainly been a popular move and all students are enjoying their new programs which are more reflective of their age range. I am most grateful to Mary and the GOSHC staff for their hard work which I know benefits so many families in our school.

The new Early Learning Centre is still moving ahead and building supply dependent we hope to open it by the end of Term 1, 2022. Of course this will be dependent on all building supplies being available and also that fine weather will help the building program.

In this our final Ripples I would like extend Christmas blessings to our whole Grace community. May the birth of our Saviour, Jesus be part of your celebrations this year. (John 3:16).

Thank you to our 2021 Parent Reps

Thank You

Last Tuesday night our current Parent Rep Team enjoyed a fun night out to celebrate an action packed school year. From Twilight Carnival, multiple 50th anniversary celebrations, to World Teachers’ Day our Parent Reps were involved all the way. They kept us up to date each week on what was happening in their classes and how their classes’ families could get involved. They are certainly a valued and much loved team who have assured us they have had lots of fun and have made wonderful friends along the way too.

Shout Out for Parent Reps in 2022

We are finalising our Parent Rep Team for 2022 now. If you would like to join in the fun and get to know the families in your child’s year levels even better, then a wonderful way to do this is to become one of our valued Parent Reps. If you would like to find out more or are ready to join our team, please email us at events@glps.qld.edu.au

LYQ Year 5 Leadership Day – BIG HORIZONS PROGRAM

On Tuesday 9 November our Year 5 students and their teachers spent the day with four vibrant Lutheran Youth of Queensland (LYQ) trained presenters. The students were engaged in activities and discussion about leadership, the roles of a good leader and the qualities that make up a leader with influence. The main Leadership topic was BIG HORIZONS and each student was encouraged to think of themselves as leaders in their own right. Students were engaged in team work challenges with students across the three classes. They played games that helped them to appreciate the talents of others and also the limitations of those in their group and how to engage all members to achieve success for the team.
Students had time for reflection and discussion on the games and activities and had some insights on the day that they were happy to share and discuss.

Some Student Reflections
“Being positive to others helps you be a good leader.” Ashlyn 5W

“You don’t need a badge to be a leader. The Robot project helped us remember that leadership is about ‘BEING POSITIVE’, ‘USING HELPFUL WORDS’, ‘BEING BRAVE’ and ‘STEPPING OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONES’. ” Matilda 5W

“Leaders show loyalty, kindness, open-mindedness, resilience, respect and team work.” Lachlan 5T

“Leaders need to be brave. In teamwork you need to communicate with each other, include everybody in the task and know that it is hard work and to never quit.” William L. 5T

“A Leader is someone, people can seek out for help and support. The games helped us develop teamwork because you had to communicate and coordinate your efforts to get past the obstacles and get the task achieved.” Luke 5N

“A Leader doesn’t need to have all the answers. They lead by example, help others and be open-minded to questions and feedback. Leaders need to have time out too, to relax, meditate, reflect, listen and focus.” Amelia 5N

This link here explains the program and variety of programs and services offered by LYQ for schools and families.

Communication from Grace Lutheran College – Bus applications close Friday 26 November

Dear Parents/Guardians

Should your child wish to travel on the Grace College bus service (full time or casual) in 2022, please select the following link and complete a Bus Application for each student – Bus Application Form – 2022. Your completed request is required to be submitted by Friday 26 November 2021. This in turn will ensure that bus stickers can be distributed in the first week of school for full time travellers. Users of the Grace College Shuttle Bus to and from Grace Primary, there is a different application form.  Please click this link 2022 Annual Shuttle Bus Application.

The Grace bus service will commence Monday 24 January 2022.

Grace College wishes to advise that casual bus tickets and full time bus pass pricing has changed for 2022. Please also note stops, arrival and departure times have altered on some services.

Full time students in Years 9 and 10 will receive a credit for the period they attend Googa Outdoor Education Centre.

To accommodate an increase in student numbers a new service has been created to service the Mango Hill / Capestone areas. This run will be known as “Capestone”.

Tickets for approved casual users are not required for the first week of school for Grace College students. Tickets are available from the Finance Office at Rothwell, Student Services at Caboolture and Grace Primary Reception. A ticket must be handed to the driver upon boarding the bus.

Students are reminded they are required to be at their AM bus stop at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.

ROTHWELL CAMPUS

Congratulation to Year Six Graduates

As we look forward to the graduation of the Year 6, we rejoice in your seven years of schooling, and your time at Grace Lutheran Primary School. This group represents something special for me. They began their Prep year when I began as Pastor to Grace.
It is my prayer that God will bring you many blessings as step into the next phase of your journey through life. It is a blessing when we can be involved in a journey of life together in various spaces.

God’s blessings be with you all
The end of a year can fill us with so many different feelings. Some are looking forward to holidays with joy. Others are thinking about work that is still to be done. Some are looking forward to reunions with families they haven’t seen for a very long time. Other will be reminded of family they can no longer.

Whatever your situation, it is my prayer you know true peace and joy at this time.
One of the Bible verses for worship this Sunday says, “May the Lord cause your love to increase and overflow for one another and for everyone else, just as our love does for you. May He so strengthen your hearts in holiness that you may stand blameless before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His holy ones.” (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13)

God’s blessings and peace.

Christmas Carol Busking Week @ Grace!

Christmas Carol Busking Week @ Grace!

After a successful busking week last year, we are thrilled to be hosting Christmas Carol busking in the final week of this term. All funds raised will go towards the cost of shipping ‘Operation Christmas Child’ boxes overseas. What a great way for our young artists to use their gifts and talents for a great cause whilst regularly performing in various settings and for different audiences.

Please note that dancers are performing their Christmas Dance at their busking time which has been scheduled on the same morning as their regular dance lesson, except for Contemporary as our Year 6 students are off on their celebration day that day.

Dancers are required to arrive at their 7:30am lesson dressed in their costume (including tights and shoes), with their hair in the required style. Please note that no makeup is required for this performance.

Music Ensembles and some solo students will also be performing during busking mornings so please bring along some coins, enjoy our artists performances and have a coffee at Charis!

Please see the schedule below:

We kindly ask all busking musicians to meet in The Ensemble Room at Mrs L’s desk at 7:30-7:45am on the morning of their session to setup and tune.

Swimming Carnivals
We have now finished our school carnivals and sports events for 2021! The Senior Swimming Carnival held on Friday 12 November was an awesome day with some great results across the day, lots of new personal bests were achieved and a heap of school records broken. Well done to all students who attended the carnival. We would like to thank that huge amount of parent help that we had at the senior carnival with timing races, without these amazing volunteers it would not be possible to run these events.

The Junior Swimming celebration was held on Friday the 19 of November, we had a fantastic morning of celebration and fun for our lower primary students. Well done to all students who did a great job of highlighting their swimming abilities in various events and activities across the morning. We would like to thank all the parents and grandparents who helped time races on the day. Again, these events are not possible without your help and we greatly appreciate your help!

Thank you
As my time at Grace draws to a close (as my wife & I are moving to Sydney), I am very thankful for the three years of sport that I have been involved in here at Grace Primary.  Since taking on the role in 2019 I have been so thankful to be working in such a strong and vibrant community of sport. See students achieve their personal best, try new sports and develop and grow as young people and athletes has been a real highlight. Thank you to everyone who has helped to build the positive sporting culture here at Grace, it has been a pleasure serving the community and working to create positive sporting experiences for students from Prep to Year 6.
