Happy holidays…

“What are we doing for the holiday?” This is a question we all face. Children have requests. Some would like to travel. Others would like to visit places like adventure parks. Others might simply like to catch up with family they haven’t seen for a while. And there are those who still have to work… One of the challenges we may sometimes have is planning ‘holidays’ in a way that brings equal and fair blessing to members of our households.

One of the blessings in living in Australia is the diverse ranges of experiences we may have. One may enjoy snorkelling in tropical waters. Other may enjoy camping in the outback. Some may enjoy going to the movies. And others may enjoy spending some quiet time at home. It is my prayer that these holidays would bring you some blessing.

There is much beauty and blessings in this land. One of the iconic images we may have of Australia are waterholes lined by gum trees. The Psalm for this coming Sunday also describes people like this. Psalm 1 says, “Those who think about God’s Word are like a tree that is planted near a stream of water. It always bears its fruit at the right time. Its leaves don’t dry up. Everything godly people do turns out well.”

Holidays may be a time for catching up with family, and reconnecting with one another. They may be a time to take ‘time apart’, and to reflect on what the future may hold. They may also be a time to reflect not only in the beauty of creation, but also the gift of love God has given in Christ Jesus.

May your holidays be a time blessing and peace.

Together in Christ,
Pastor Mark
