2019 School Aid Group

This year Year 6 students, Hayden, Bronte, James and Mia were the members of the Grace Lutheran Primary School Aid team. The SchoolAid group met each term with students from Clontarf Beach State School and Southern Cross Catholic School. Meetings were held in board rooms on the Peninsula such as Kindred, Crown and Sesame Lane. The students met to discuss philanthropy and how they can help others using the heart, head and hands strategy. The last meeting was held in the Grace Primary board room. Grace students were able to share their service project of raising $2000 to purchase two bocce sets and ramps for Woody Point and Redcliffe Special Schools. Mr Sean Gordon, founder of SchoolAid, shared how to set up a campaign on the SchoolAid website and encouraged the student to engage in this avenue to help communities such as those affected by the bushfires. The group were able to reflect on their year, understand that helping others is a calling of great worth and purpose and that in life, they all have much to be grateful for.

From the Library

All Grace Primary library books are now due to be returned to the Library including all home readers.

Your assistance with getting all the resources back to school ready for next year is very appreciated.

The library staff would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents, grandparents and guardians for their continued support throughout 2019. Whether it be through purchasing books through Book Clubs, one of our events or by weekly reminding your child to return their books (and sometimes finding it still there the next day) is all most appreciated.

We wish you all a very joyous Christmas spent enjoying the company of your loved ones.

From Pastor Mark

What are some of the Christmas presents you have received over the years? Is there anything that stands out for you?

As a child we often rejoice in simple toys (and how often have small children found us much fun in wrapping paper and boxes as other gifts?!). As we get a little older we may look for things such as gaming consoles, or other such gifts. And when we get even older, just being able to get one’s family together is a wonderful gift!

At this time of year we are rejoicing in the greatest gift. Our theme within Grace Congregation this year is ‘Unwrapping the Greatest Gift’. A Bible prophecy of Jesus (spoken some 600 years before Jesus was born) said, “For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” May you know God’s blessings that comes from knowing Jesus.

Prayers and blessings to all who leave Grace Lutheran Primary School this year, especially Year 6’s as you move to a new stage in life.

Prayers and blessings for all who travel at this time of year, that you may be kept safe and experience times of joy.

Prayers and peace to all who experience challenges at this time of year.

Prayers and blessings to all. May you know God’s greatest gift.

In Christ
Pastor Mark

Christmas wishes to all our families

As the lights begin to go up on houses, churches and businesses and the shops start to decorate, my thoughts turn to the celebration of Jesus’ birth at Christmas time. For Christians, this is a special time of year, a time of reflection and a time of joy as we remember that God sent His only son to earth to bless us and save us. I do hope that all families enjoy this time of family gatherings, feasting and spending time with neighbours and friends enjoying all that the Christmas season is about. You may like to enjoy a church service at Grace Lutheran Church on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I know the congregation will welcome you warmly. May God’s peace be with you and your family at Christmas time and over the summer holidays.

Class Lists 2020

Every year, we send out class allocation information in mid-January. The reason for this is we need to be sure of final enrolment numbers and staffing. To do it much earlier risks students becoming excited about a teacher who may move during the school holidays. I urge families to go on holidays and relax and we will send out your child/ren’s class allocation during January. Should you be concerned about the allocation, please ring or email me and I will discuss the placement with you. Teachers spend many hours preparing class lists ensuring a good mix of students academically but whilst also ensuring friendship groups are maintained and encouraged. Unfortunately, any requests put in by parents at this late stage cannot be considered but I am happy to discuss class placement with you in January should you have any concerns.

Uniform 2020

A friendly reminder that next year is the last year for students to wear the old uniform. All students in 2021, need to be in the new blue uniform so you may want to buy some items next year in readiness for the following year’s expectations. The only students in 2021 who may wear old uniform will be Year 6 students. 2021 is a very special year for Grace Primary as we celebrate 50 years of Lutheran Education on the Peninsula and we look forward to sharing with you some festivities we are planning from June next year.
